Clinical trial: THC and CBD for chronic pain

A University of Utah clinical trial is evaluating the effectiveness of two different THC/CBD combinations as treatment for chronic pain and life functioning.

The study is also examining the results of MRIs taken before and after the final dose of  CBD/THC or placebo.

Researchers want to see if the cannabinoid mixtures produce changes in brain metabolism, brain connectivity and brain structure.

Participant are receiving one of three medications:

  • High THC/low CBD;
  • Low THC/high CBD; and
  • Placebo

Preliminary study results could come as soon as January 2019.

The clinical-trial record was updated on January 7, 2019 indicating that the study met QC criteria.
