Approximately 136 US military veterans in the San Diego area will participate in a phase 2 clinical trial that will test the effects of CBD on Post-Traumatic-Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The clinical trial is designed around the hypothesis that individuals who take CBD while getting Prolonged Exposure therapy (for PTSD) will see a greater reduction of symptoms than those who do not take CBD while receiving the therapy.
The study will be conducted over a five year period by the VA San Diego Medical Center (for veterans), in collaboration with the University of California San Diego School of Medicine.
“The study represents the logical and innovative next step for augmenting existing treatments and developing novel pharmacotherapy for PTSD,” according to a description of the clinical trial.
The study is expected to begin next month.
